Flipping a Switch: 24 Later Life Transitions

and Action Steps for Happiness and Financial

Security (1 CFP® CE Credit*)

Whether clients follow the FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) philosophy and plan to exit the labor force in mid-life or retire after a long-time career in their late 50s, 60s, or early 70s, many life transitions occur after this step is taken. A good analogy is “flipping a switch." Some changes happen suddenly (e.g., “on" and “off") while others happen over time like a “dimmer switch" (e.g., gradually decreasing work hours). Some “switches" are voluntary (e.g., spending accumulated savings) and some are mandatory (e.g., taking required minimum distributions).

Learn about 24 financial, lifestyle, and social transitions that happen later in life with suggested action steps for clients and their advisors.
